The Proposal
One of my absolute favorite things about being a photographer is getting to capture the most important moments in my family’s lives. And this one? Extra special. Ever since my brother, Sam, met Hope, I knew they were meant to be. So when he started planning his proposal, I was beyond excited to be a part of it!
Proposals are always nerve-racking to shoot (so much pressure!), but they’re also so much fun. Sam wanted the perfect setting—somewhere beautiful and meaningful to Hope. Since she loves beaches, he reached out to me for ideas, and I immediately suggested Whitefish Dunes in Door County, Wisconsin. It’s one of my favorite spots for photography, and I knew it would be the perfect backdrop for this moment.
Finally, the big day arrived! I got to the beach early to scout out the perfect spot and then texted Sam when it was go-time. I hid behind a tree (true photographer stealth mode), heart racing as they strolled hand in hand along the shore. And then—it happened. Sam got down on one knee, and of course, Hope said yes!
Cue all the happy tears and an impromptu photoshoot to celebrate. We even jumped straight into Lake Michigan because, honestly, why not? They then rushed home, dripping wet but completely overjoyed, to share the exciting news with everyone.
Also, can we just take a moment for the ring? Absolutely stunning.
The Engagement Photos
Hope has such an effortlessly cool and timeless style—very similar to my own—so I knew their engagement session was going to be a dream. She loves a classy, vintage downtown vibe, and I had been dying to do a shoot at the Milwaukee Public Library. When they agreed to the location, I was thrilled!
The library’s architecture was straight out of a fairytale—grand columns, ornate details, and a romantic, old-world feel. Sam kept it classic with dress pants and a crisp dress shirt, while Hope looked stunning in a vintage mini dress she thrifted (literal perfection).
After capturing some dreamy moments there, we wandered around the surrounding area, finding all the best little pockets of the city for unique backdrops. But to tie it all together, we ended the shoot at Atwater Beach for sunset—bringing everything full circle from the proposal. From start to finish, it was so much fun!
Final Thoughts
I cannot wait to celebrate with these two this August! They were so thoughtful in making sure I get to enjoy the day as a guest (which I appreciate so much!), so they’ve hired another amazing photographer to capture their wedding. And I just know the photos are going to be absolutely incredible.
Sam and Hope, I’m so beyond happy for you both—August can’t come soon enough!
